About the School
The well-being of our pupils is extremely important to us.
In Years 7-11 pastoral care is largely handled by form tutors in the first instance and then by Heads of Year. The Choristers have an additional tutor who liaises between the Cathedral and school. There are five Houses: Abbots, Bishops, Deans, Canons, Priors. Each tutor group is the same year group.
In Years 12-13 pastoral care is overseen by the Deputy Headteacher Quality of Education Years 12 & 13 and Deputy Head of Sixth Form.
Pastoral matters may escalate to the Assistant Headteacher (Designated Safeguarding Lead) and ultimately to the Headteacher.
Our teaching staff are very experienced at helping young people, and pupils are encouraged to discuss their concerns with tutors. In addition, we encourage parents to get in touch if they think something is troubling their son or daughter, however trivial it may seem: we view the partnership between home and School as integral to a child’s happy and successful education at BCCS. There are a number of trained counsellors on the teaching staff.
All those who work for the School, including the Governors and any volunteers who have substantial unsupervised access to children, are checked with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) in accordance with national guidelines.
BCCS is committed to ensuring that our students remain safe online. Find out more about the South West Grid for Learning Trust.
