IT and Computing

The Information Technology (IT) department aims to provide an IT-rich environment that will evolve to embrace new technologies and methods. We seek to provide 24/7 access to resources and support. Our goal is to develop and celebrate the skills, capabilities and achievements of our pupils, staff and the wider community; and to share creative and imaginative ways of using IT within education.

Key Stage 3

IT is taught in mixed-ability classes in Year 7 at the start of the year, but is then set due to changes in Mathematics classes. Pupils will be introduced to how the internal systems of the School works using email, VLE and folder storage in the first few weeks. They will also invest some time in organising and setting up their Passport Personal Page which blogs all their co-curricular activities.

The year is then broken down into different units:

  • Cyberbullying
  • Spreadsheets
  • SCRATCH (Computer Programming)
  • Using a Database
  • Crocodile
  • Publisher

These skills are also embedded into the curriculum where pupils are expected to improve their skills.

Similarly, in Years 8 and 9 IT is also embedded into the curriculum and pupils are given opportunities to develop their skills across subjects.
